Without well planned Ventilation, Double Glazing and Insulation may be a waste of your good money.

Does insulation is not entirely doing what authorities want?


An increase of only 1.4°C in house temperature was recorded in a New Zealand survey of insulated homes in 2002 run by the BRANZ Household Energy End-Use Project (HEEP). This was a before and after survey tested in hundreds of homes through out New Zealand.

I feel this needs to be thought through far more than it has been, imagine wrapping the houses up with double glazing and insulation and then ventilating using our old methods of opening windows, this really is not up to doing the complete task ........

Condensation in Auckland NZ

The weather we’ve had over the last few weeks has been great with cold nights, frosty mornings and fantastic days.

These conditions give us lovely fine days but also perfect conditions to produce bad condensation on windows including some double glazed window frames.

On these cold nights we heat our homes more, this in tern draws more water out of our carpets, curtains and all other porous surfaces. Heating the air enables it to hold more water vapour, this we don’t notice as we are warm and cosy – and what we don’t realise is that it costs us to keep the water as vapour.
